Her first hand experience of hypnosis in 2005, led her to train as a hypnotherapist and since then her practice has grown from strength to strength, she works one to one with people on a regular basis, increasing confidence and well-being by tackling challenges and blocks in their lives. As well as her work on women’s health, Sophie works regularly with are phobias, pain management, insomnia, anxiety, confidence, work-based stress, resilience, motivation, sports performance and addiction.
Although my work is a mix of coaching and motivational change work, I don’t shy away from the word hypnosis. It is the icing on the cake, a brilliant and effective tool that accelerates change. You have to experience it to understand how it works, and people are always surprised at how much they love it!
A well known expert on hypnosis for pregnancy and birth, she has seen thousands of women through her programme of birth preparation, Mindful Mamma, taught by an elite group of health professionals across the UK, and Australia.
“Hypnosis is a comfortable and familiar state of mind. It allows you to quickly and easily remove blockages that have stopped you reaching your full potential. Hypnotherapy can be a life changing and powerful experience that can help you discover the emotional freedom to live your life the way you want to.”
Sophie founded Mindful Mamma in 2008 with her colleague Mia Scotland, a clinical psychologist. The first one day mindful hypnobirthing class, it is designed to make hypnosis more accessible to women and their partners and to take an evidence based approach to hypnobirthing. Their aim was to make sure that women were able to use hypnosis to increase their confidence and have a positive experience whatever type of birth they had.
In 2011 Sophie trained with Michel Odent, an obstetrician, as a doula, and integrated this practise into her work as a specialist doula with mindfulness and hypnosis. Her first book Mindful Hypnobirthing is published by Vermillion and has sold over 35,000 copies, her second book, focusing on parenting in the first year, is due to be pushed in November 2019 and she is currently writing her third book.
Sophie now runs private Mindful Hypnobirthing sessions in across the UK and give talks, training and lectures on hypnosis for women’s health, and mindful hypnobirthing. She lives in the Vale of Belvoir, in the East Midlands, with her husband and two boys.
Sophie is registered with the National Council for Hypnotherapy and The Department of Health recognised, Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. (CNHC).
